Public urged to use water wisely as Mpumalanga dam levels continue to decline

The lack of rainfall and hot temperatures also lead to the declining dam levels due to high evaporation.

The dam levels in the Mpumalanga Province continue to decline and this calls for the public to strengthen water conservation practices and use the available water wisely to ensure access to all, especially under these severe weather conditions.

According to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) weekly state of reservoirs reports, the levels of water in the dams continue to decline on a regular basis week-in and week-out. The weekly reports also show that water levels in the river systems in both the Olifants and Inkomati-Usuthu water management areas continue to decrease.

As the water levels in our dams and catchment management areas continue on a decline mode, the Department of Water and Sanitation would like to remind and encourage the public to behave in a responsible manner and practice water conservation in all activities.

Water security is in our hands, so let us all play our part in ensuring sustainable water supply for all in our water scarce country by using the available water wisely and sparingly for the benefit of all.
