Sunbake: We grow what matters!

Nelspruit Sunbake partnered with the Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation to provide wheelchairs for underprivileged children.

During the month of December, the Nelspruit Sunbake Bakery joined hands with the Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation and provided eight wheelchairs to underprivileged children and children with disabilities in the townships.

Gustav Scholtz, Sunbake Nelspruit Bakery’s general manager, said it is important for the company to empower the community. “The community forms the heartbeat of our local population and customers, and we support them through various initiatives.”
Scholtz and his bakers said, “We are blessed to be part of making this season a memorable experience for these eight children, and are thankful that they can contribute to these children’s future.”

Kylah Beukes, the Meyer Beukes Warriors on Wheels Foundation’s managing director, identified eight children from townships in the Lowveld area who are cared for by their mothers, who therefore cannot work because they look after their children during the day.
Sunbake went the extra mile and ensured that the wheelchairs are fully equipped and modified to suit the children’s needs. Not all the roads in these townships are smooth, and therefore bigger wheels were added to ensure that the children can easily move around.
Beukes expressed her joy about providing these wheelchairs to the children. “I wish I had all the right words to express the joy and gratitude felt throughout the day. The smiles on these warriors’ faces, the excitement and giggles of their siblings and the deep gratitude of the mothers.”

Sunbake also empowers the local communities through various initiatives. These include the More Food to More People More Often, and Do More Foundation. Through these initiatives, Sunbake provides meals to those who are disadvantaged in the community.
In the last three years, Sunbake also provided 12 fully fitted classrooms to various schools in Mpumalanga.
