40 years’ loyal service pays off for Samancor Eastern Chrome Mine employee

A Samancor staff member has been rewarded with a brand-new vehicle for his long service at the mine.

Since the inception of an initiative by Samancor Eastern Chrome Mine (ECM) to reward employees with a vehicle for 40 years’ service, 29 of them have qualified since 2018. The latest recipient is Joseph Manzini.

His career started at Samancor on March 1, 1983, as a security guard. At that stage, Manzini only had Grade Seven as his highest qualification. In 1994, he enrolled at Sehlaku High School as a part-time candidate. He managed to obtain his matric certificate in 1996 and was promoted at Samancor’s Tweefontein Mine to a control room operator post at the metallurgical plant.

From 1997 to 2017, Manzini started with his mineral processing training as well as supervisory training.

His dedication paid off, and in 2007 he was promoted to a human resource development (HRD) officer in the training department.

On March 1 Manzini qualified for 40 years’ service at Samancor.
He was awarded with a Nissan NP200 for loyal service and his positive attitude throughout his career.

Manzini would like to extend his gratitude to the following persons for their contributions to his personal and career growth: the general manager, Bertus Brink, the mining manager, Bobby Olivier, the metallurgical manager, Tseke Sekhukhune, the human resources manager, Pieter Brits, the HRD superintendent, Jakes van der Sandt, and his training team.

“Above all, I have achieved this through God’s grace. Ngomusa we Nkosi,” Manzini said.

ECM congratulated him on his achievement. According to the management, he has proven that hard work pays off.
Manzini is very proud of his new vehicle. He thanked all ECM employees for their continued support throughout his entire working period.

“We would like to thank Morgan Nissan Lydenburg for their excellent service and assistance in getting the dedicated Manzini his gift,” said mine management.
