Unbeaten Barberton takes top bowls prize

A team of four ladies of the Barberton Bowls Club emerged victorious in the 2024 Mpumalanga Bowls Association’s (MBA) men’s and ladies’ fours in June, winning their second title in fine fashion by going unbeaten.

The Barberton Bowls Club hosted the finals of the 2024 Mpumalanga Bowls Association’s (MBA) men’s and ladies’ fours in June.

The tournament was held on June 15 and 16, and all the participating teams played brilliantly. Bowls values were proudly on display, with teamwork and friendships at the forefront.

In the men’s tournament, the team from Groblersdal with Carlo Fourie at the helm walked away with the laurels, and Micus Grech (Witbank) and his team came in second. Ermelo’s Vincent Sonnekus and his team were third, while Francois Hanekom and his team from White River came in fourth.

In the ladies’ section, the winners were Marie Saaiman and her team from the Barberton Bowls Club, with Louanne Moller and her Ermelo team in second place. Debbie Day’s team of the LVCC was third and Madaleine de Klerk of the Nelspruit Bowls Club took fourth place.

The four ladies from Barberton – Marie Saaiman (skip), Anne-Marie van der Ham (third), Wilna du Plooy (second) and Lynette Boshoff – were unbeaten in all their games. It was their second win in an MBA fours final as they were the champions in 2022 as well.
