A fun day for swimmers at the NSAD’s autumn splash gala

Parents were cheering from the stands as their children had the time of their lives showing off their swimming skills. The youngest swimmer was a three-year-old toddler.

Some children got the chance to show off their swimming skills in the presence of their parents during the Nelspruit Swimming Academy Development’s (NSAD) autumn splash gala at Laerskool Malelane on Saturday May 4.

With the youngest swimmer being a three-year-old toddler, the day was filled with fun and proud parents cheering as their young ones took to the water.

According to the club’s president, Brigitte Radley, this was to showcase the development work they do with one of their programmes, Learn to Swim. “We promote swimming in Mpumalanga, but specifically in Malalane. A handful of mothers came together just after the Covid-19 period to start the club and register it as a non-profit organisation. Some of the children we have had in the club have been swimming on South African level and took part in junior and senior national championships. As a club, we have done very well over the past four years of our existence,” said Radley.

She encouraged people to join the club in order to learn swimming skills. “While swimming may not be for everybody, water safety is. Children should be water-safe. If a family goes on a holiday, their parents should not feel threatened having swimming pools around. We also have older members in the club, the oldest being a 76-year-old who even got a medal at a masters swimmers marathon last year,” Radley said.
