Hadebe issues a stern warning to corrupt cops

This warning comes after several complaints from members of the public in various policing areas across the province.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has issued a stern warning against the solicitation of bribes within the ranks of law enforcement, highlighting a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.

Hadebe emphasised the importance of integrity and professionalism among all SAPS members. “Corruption undermines the rule of law, erodes public trust in our institution and is a setback towards creation of safer communities. We are therefore committed to rooting out any form of corruption within our ranks,” she stated.

The warning comes in the wake of several complaints from members of the public in various policing areas across the province.

The SAPS has reiterated its call for community members to report any incidents of solicitation of bribes by police officers.

Community members are also warned against participating in such corrupt activities, as they will equally face the consequences.

“The success of our efforts to fight corruption depends on the co-operation between the police and the community. We urge anyone with information on corrupt activities to come forward. Your anonymity will be protected,” assured Hadebe.

She said the Limpopo SAPS is intensifying its internal anti-corruption measures, including the establishment of dedicated units focused on internal investigations, regular integrity testing and enhanced surveillance and monitoring of high-risk individuals and areas.

Hadebe reaffirmed the SAPS’s dedication to serving the community with honesty and integrity. “We are resolute in our mission to ensure a corruption-free police service of which the people of Limpopo can be proud.”
