Laerskool Lydenburg athletes back from Indonesia with great results

Athletes boast two gold medals and top international rankings.

Three young athletes from Laerskool Lydenburg joined 450 athletes at the UIPM (Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne) 2023 Biathle-Triathle World Championships.

The mixed and individual races took place in Bali, Indonesia, between November 2 and 5. The sequence of biathle is run-swim-run, while the triathle is a swim-runformat.

Zoë and Zoan Janse van Vuuren were in the South African age group team that won gold in the individual triathle event.
Zoë (U13) and her biathle relay teammate Lohan van Daa were fifth, and she won sixth place with her triathle teammate Reuben Mathyssen.

In her triathle race, she won a fifth place out of 27 athletes and a 12th place out of 31 athletes in the biathle individual race.

Zoan Jansen van Vuuren.

Zoan (U11) won the ninth place out of 31 athletes in the biathle, the 11th position out of 14 biathle relay teams, the 12th position out of 17 athletes in the triathle, the 10th position out of 12 athletes in the triathle relay, and was part of the winning U11 triathle team. The winning U10 team from South Africa was Wanru Haasbroek, Logan van der Westuizen and Zoan Janse van Vuuren.

Athletes participating during the swimming event.

Giann Wessels competed in the biathle and triathle for boys U15 in the swimming, target shooting and running disciplines.
He experienced technical problems during the target shooting discipline.
Gian achieved 15th place out of 35 athletes in the triathle, and eighth place out of 32 athletes in the biathle.

As a team, South Africa won fourth place out of 13 teams in the biathle, and was the fifth team out of 10 teams in the triathle.
