SAPS calls for applicants to join the ranks

The deadline to apply for a career in the SAPS is fast approaching. Project 10 000 encourages citizens who want to become police officers to apply before August 31.

A recruitment drive by SAPS will provide 10 000 citizens with the opportunity to apply for a career in the police force. The recruitment drive is called Project 10 000.

The core functions of candidates will be to prevent, combat and investigate crime, as well as maintain public order and uphold and enforce the law. The selected applicants shall participate in a basic police development learning programme for a period of 21 months.

Some of the requirements are:
• A permanent South African proof of identification and address
• Possession of a Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification, of which documentary proof must be supplied
• A valid driver’s licence for at least a light motor vehicle will serve as an advantage
• Be proficient in English and one other official language
• Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, with no previous criminal convictions
• Submit himself or herself to a physical and mental examination after applying for the position
• Be prepared to successfully undergo such training as determined by the national police commissioner and be prepared to serve anywhere in the Republic of South Africa.
