Farewell to Lowveld business chamber stalwart, Zelda

She is one of the KLCBT's most valued team members and she is leaving the Lowveld.

One of the stalwart members of the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) will be leaving the Lowveld within the year.

Having started her journey with the KLCBT in 2007 at the age of 28, Zelda Wright has become known and loved for her hard work and dedication when it comes to all things KLCBT, and its public relations and events management over the years.

What is she trading the Lowveld in for? As soon as all her and her family’s admin is sorted, they will be emigrating to Australia.

When asked whether the decision was a difficult one, she said no. This is not to be taken as a lack of love for the Lowveld, though. “It is for our child, our family,” she said. “I love what I do. I am a people person.”

Once they are settled down under, she said she would like to work for a business chamber again. It might have different challenges compared to what a business chamber job entails in South Africa’s Lowveld, but it comes down to problem-solving – something she has gotten a handle on over the years.

She spoke at length about her time here; how it started, what she has learnt during her 16 years and what she has accomplished. Although she is excited for her new chapter, she will surely miss the people here.

Two highlights of Wright’s time with the KLCBT is the annual awards and definitely the members of the KLCBT. She gets tears in her eyes when remembering these members and genuinely sees them as family she is leaving behind.

She has fond recollections of feedback after each year’s awards. She somehow managed to one-up herself every year, pulling out all the stops for this business elite event. This was something in which she took pride.

From the KLCBT’s side, its COO, Linda Grimbeek, did not say Wright is like a sister. “She is a sister. She is part of our family, so it is like losing a family member. She was truly one of the strong legs the KLCBT stands upon, and she helped build it, side by side, to where it is today.

“We will definitely miss her terribly, as will the members she has loyally served over the years. She crawled deep into our hearts over these last 16 years.

“It was too short, but we wish her all of the best. She is a smart lady.”

Having been here for this many years, you learn a thing or two about people. As one last message to the Lowveld and its inhabitants who have become like family Wright, she said: “Wake up. Let the sun shine on others’ heads. Support one another, and work together.”
