Dangerous 4m-deep sinkhole in Lydenburg still not repaired

The sinkhole is at least 4m or more wide and 3m deep.

A sinkhole developed in Viljoen Street after heavy rain. Over the past weekend, the area around the sinkhole was cordoned off with danger tape to make motorists aware of it.

The hole is about 4m or more deep. It is close to the low-water bridge towards the industrial area in town. Water can be heard running below the surface of the remaining road.

Lydenburg had approximately 75mm of rain over the weekend.
Private emergency services and towing companies were on standby in case their assistance was needed over the weekend.
The sinkhole has not been repaired yet, and motorists are urged to travel with extreme caution.
Thaba Chweu Local Municipality had not commented on the estimated repair time by the time of going to press.
