Man accused of killing Nelspruit deputy sheriff denied bail

The accused's bail application was heard in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on December 14 and 15.

The man accused of shooting and killing Nelspruit deputy sheriff Michelle Jones was denied bail by the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court last week.

Hendry Dlamini (32) is accused of shooting both Jones and her partner, Julio Baumgat, in Nelsville on the evening of October 20, following an alleged house dispute in the area.

Dlamini had previously abandoned his bail application when he appeared in court on November 8, and the matter was postponed until December 13 for further investigation.

However, Dlamini had reportedly applied for bail again and the matter was set to be heard on December 14.

Jones’s friends and family, supported by members of the ANC, filled the courtroom on December 14 and 15 as the bail application was heard.

Dlamini was denied bail and is expected to appear in court again on February 3. He will spend Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve behind bars.
