Skukuza Nursery received some much-needed love this year

The SANParks Honorary Rangers have been hard at work at the Skukuza Nursery.

The SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) of the Lowveld Region were hard at work at the Skukuza Nursery this year with five work sessions and another one coming up.

The SHR’s Skukuza nursery co-ordinator, Laetitia Fourie, said, “We started the first work session with just three volunteers, but the group grew bigger with every session. The last one saw 18 very passionate and dedicated SHRs making a big difference to the nursery.

The SHR also involved the Lowveld Bonsai Club to do maintenance on the bonsai stand. They did a superb job, planting new trees, styling and also teaching some of the staff to do the maintenance in between.

Tasks included the replacement of the dilapidated pump house, bolting benches down so that visitors could have a place to sit, and erecting a new entrance sign. In addition, the honorary rangers began fixing an old storeroom to be turned into a community shop. They also cleaned and reshaped a few beds and did maintenance on the kids’ jungle gym.

Bonsais were added to the stand, all lawns were mowed, weeds were removed from pathways and plants were pruned.

Fourie said, “Thank you for joining hands and thank you to everyone choosing to make a difference. We appreciate it.”
