Body found in Crocodile River still unidentified

Police suspect that the victim was murdered as his hands had been tied with rope.

The decomposed body of a man found in the Crocodile River has not been identified yet.

The police requested members of the public who might have know him to come forward and identify him, especially those missing a family member.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the body was spotted by community members who were crossing the river, and they alerted the police.

“Upon arrival, the police discovered the body already in a decomposed state, lying on top of a rock. Preliminary investigations found the victim’s hands had been tied with a rope behind his back,” Mohlala said.

An inquest has been opened at the Nelspruit Police Station, which will probably become a murder enquiry.

“The body is currently at the government mortuary in Mbombela for anyone who wants to identify it. However, before we can release the deceased, we will follow all processes to make sure that the body is given to the right people,” he said.

Mohlala requested that anyone with information that may assist the police with the investigation, to come forward.
