Wrong photo on driver’s licence after waiting two years, in Mbombela

When the drivers licence came back it had correct names and ID number, but the photo was of someone else.

The Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTC) is investigating the matter of an applicant receiving her driver’s licence with the wrong photo on it, and that after waiting two years and having to return to the centre repeatedly.
According to Marcia Samuel, she went to the DLTC to renew her licence in February 2020, when lockdown was introduced. After restrictions were relaxed, she once again visited the centre and was told that there was a problem with her photo.

“We took a new picture, but when I went back few months later, I was then told my fingerprints were not clear. New fingerprints were taken, but, aware of the national backlog, I decided to wait until I was advised to pick it up. I then went back on June 14 to collect the card after I received a notification SMS,” Samuel said.

“They took quite a while to find my file and when they did, I said, ‘Thank God! At last’, only to find that the photo on the card was not mine, only the names and the ID number were. The photo was of a male. You can imagine how disgusted I was when I saw the licence,” Samuel said. She said it was frustrating that she had to wait for more than two years to receive her card and she has now lost all trust in the provincial DLTC, because she still does not know what happened to the original photo. “At least they allowed me to reapply for a new one for free. Let’s hope this time it will come back correct,’ she said.

The provincial spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, confirmed that they are investigating the incident.
“I would like to believe that what happened is a human error from our centre or the head offices were they are printing the cards. However, the mistake will be fixed, and I would like to apologise to the client for all the trouble she went through.”
Moeti insisted the centre’s system can be trusted, despite this minor mistake.
