The day started at about 13:00, and eight teams had to compete for the title of the best potjiekos.

Each team had to cook a potjie for 10 people, and while the competition was stiff, it was all in good spirit.

The organiser of the event, Willemien Strydom, said there were three categories in the competition: oxtail, beef and lamb. Each team drew a number out of a hat and were assigned the different potjiekos categories on the day of the competition.

The overall winner of the competition was Gavin Bishop of Platsak Boerdery.

There was a tie for second place between Jacques Louw of Team Blompot and Piet Prinsloo of Numbi Ford. Third place was Christiaan Labuschagne of Buffelsfontein.

The event also hosted free tastings from Distell as well as from Heineken’s Strongbow range.
Strydom said after dinner, everyone enjoyed the rugby game on the big screen TV at the venue and the night finished off with great music and lots of dancing.

“Thank you to everyone who competed or just attended and supported the event,” said Strydom.
