Earlier today (May 4), SANParks announced the tragic passing of a field ranger in a shooting incident while on duty in the Shangoni Section in the northern part of the Kruger National Park (KNP).
“Details remain unclear, but SAPS and SANParks are working closely to establish circumstances surrounding his passing,” said the park.

The KNP’s head ranger, Cathy Dreyer, expressed her sincerest condolences to the family on behalf of the park management.
“It is a sad day when we lose one of ours in the line of duty. We are working with the police and the colleagues and will provide an update at an appropriate time,” said Dreyer.
The name of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been duly informed.
