The Lowveld Botanical Society revisits beautiful Tree Route

The Tree Route was established at the Lowveld Botanical Gardens in 2013.

The Lowveld Botanical Society (BotSoc) enjoyed a shaded walk through the Tree Route at the Lowveld Botanical Garden on Saturday morning, April 23.

The group met at the entrance to the garden at 09:30.  Wendy Williams, a member, said this route was established in 2013 as part of the Lowveld BotSoc’s contribution to the Botanical Society SA Centenary’s celebrations.

“The society’s Saturday morning outing was spent revisiting this route,” said Williams.

“Although the route covers only a fraction of the 700 trees found in the garden, it is easy to follow and when using the accompanying book, it is a great educational experience,” she said.

The walk lasted around two hours and was led by the chairperson, Frank Webb, who guided the group through the garden, rediscovering rarer trees as well as old favourites.
