Attempted cable theft leaves Mbombela CBD without power

Thieves had attempted to steal the cable, but left it burned and badly damaged instead.

Mbombela’s CBD and surrounding areas can expect to be without electricity for the next six to 10 hours.

The City of Mbombela’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said an electric cable that services the whole of the town’s CBD and surrounding areas was damaged during an attempt to steal the cables.

He said the cables were badly damaged and burned and now the municipality is working to repair them and to restore power to the city.

“Th repair work is estimated to be between six and 10 hours. We will, however, endeavour to limit the downtime,” he said.
