Nkadimeng elected for second term

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) held its inaugural council meeting on Tuesday November 23 to swear in councillors and to elect a mayor and speaker.

The former executive mayor, Friddah Nkadimeng, will again lead the municipality.
This will be Nkadimeng’s second term in this position.

She was first elected in 2019 and served two years of the previous term. She had been a member of parliament when she replaced Cllr Selina Mashego as executive mayor.

Magistrate Molate Masetla swore in Cllr Friddah Nkadimeng as the executive mayor of TLCM.

She won with 14 to 13 votes against fellow mayoral nominee Cllr Paul Mogtosinyane of Sabie. Cllr Sabina Manzini of Coromandel was elected as the chief whip.
The municipal manager, Spiwe Matsi, led the proceedings and programme till the election of the new speaker, Cllr Herns Trower.

Trower is from Sabie and is a well-known councillor and political leader in the area.
“I want to introduce myself to those who do not know me as a fair and honest man. I want councillors to support one another and to build better communities.
We were elected to help our communities and that is what our main role as councilors should be,” said Trower.

Magistrate Molate Masetla, head of the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court, swore in the 27 councillors who represent the ANC, DA, FF Plus and EFF. Nkadimeng and Cllr
Cornelius Mohlala of the ANC, as well as Cllr Spiros Couvaras of the DA, were elected to represent TCLM in the Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
