MEC Shongwe to engage Marite community in matters of crime

The MEC will be seen encouraging the Marite community to mobilise against crime.

The challenges faced by communities as a result of crime will come under the spotlight at a public participation programme (imbizo) that will take place in Marite this weekend.

The imbizo will be used to mobilise members of the community against crime and also to strengthen relations between the police and the community.
It will also be used as a platform to establish ways of tackling crime. Residents will be allowed to raise their complaints or pay their compliments towards service delivery within Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS) departments.

Representatives from various departments of the JCPS cluster will respond to the issues raised by the community during the event. However, the issues that require further investigations will be referred to the relevant state organs. Complainants will thereafter be provided with feedback upon the finalisation of the investigation of such cases.

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, will deliver a keynote address.

Date: Saturday October 9
Venue: Marite Open Ground, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality
