Chief whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature condemns criminal acts of violence

This after the recent spates of violent protests that led to the looting of and damages to both private and public property in some parts of the country.

The chief whip of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Fidel Mlombo, has joined the multitude of South Africans in saying no violence. This after the recent spates of violent protests that led to the looting of and damages to both private and public property in some parts of the country.

“The scenes that the country was exposed to in the past few days were not at all pleasant and also not representing the correct way of expressing dissatisfaction, even though the Constitution allows for protests and freedom of expression. It is therefore our duty as members of the Provincial Legislature representing the citizens of our province and constituencies respectively to call upon our communities to add their voice in condemning criminal acts of violence.“

Mlombo has applauded the people of the province who have not engaged in such criminal activities.

“I call upon all the responsible citizens to protect their valued infrastructure. These violent activities pose a serious threat to food security and people’s livelihood. It will have a negative impact on the economy of our province and the country.

“As a growing democracy we have options that we can take advantage of instead of resorting to violence. Let us also exercise our right to participate in elections as a way of adding our voice to the change we would like to see,” he said.
