Truck blocks N4 in Elands Valley

A truck driver who has disregarded road rules has ended up blocking a detour route which locals are using to bypass roadworks.

The N4 at Ngodwana is currently closed due to a truck blocking the way.

The road is currently under reparation after serious damage was done by the recent heavy rain. According to Solange Soares of TRAC, some local traffic is making use of a detour.

It should be noted that the detour via a low-water bridge is not provided by TRAC and that all traffic has been diverted and advised to use the Schoemanskloof route or Kaapsehoop Road.

“It appears that some trucks have been ignoring the road signage and pointsmen,” she told Lowvelder.

According to spectators on the scene, the truck driver was stopped earlier yesterday at the low-water bridge crossing point and asked to take the Kaapsehoop Road to get back onto the N4.

It is speculated that the driver waited at a truck stop and after roadworkers had gone home for the day, the driver tried to cross the low-water bridge anyway. However, the back carriage’s wheels slid sideways into a ditch and the truck was unable to get out.
