Cars under R200 000 popular with buyers

If you are in the market for buying or selling a vehicle, AutoTrader is largest and most popular online trading websites in South Africa. 

The data it collects offers tremendous insights into buying trends within South Africa. CEO, George Mienie, has just released the annual AutoTrader Car Industry Report and here are just some of the interesting data it identified. The 40-page report covers the 12-month period ending June 2020.

AutoTrader had 401 million online searches in 2019, that is 40 percent up year-on-year. The average selling price in 2019 was R289 312 – this was an increase of R9 003 compared to 2018.

The AutoTrader report, reflects in detail, not just info on various models, but also variants and trim levels within the ranges of vehicles and the importance of this for South African buyers. “It goes without saying that 2020 has probably been one of the most challenging years in the history of the automotive business. We have been on a roller-coaster ride.”

Short facts:

The most searched for brand was BMW

The most sold model was the Ford Ranger

The most-searched for variant was the Golf GTi

The most popular price range was R200 000 and under
