Lucy is a really lucky lady

Swopping a snare for a purple collar made both Lucy the lioness and her fans smile again.

A lioness spotted with a snare around her neck, was this week darted and the snare removed following an alert from a field guide and intervention by the “Enough is enough” Facebook group.

Lize Bester of the group says she was alerted about the lioness spotted near Pretoriuskop late on Monday. It was an old snare, since the wound looked bad. She notified veterinarians in the park.

A rescue attempt could not be launched immediately, but the lioness was located again the next morning and vets hurried to her rescue. The snare was removed, the wound cleaned, antibiotics given and soon she was ready for a roaring new life.

Until the wound has healed completely, she will now sport a purple coloured antibacterial wound spray ‘collar’, a healthy improvement on the harrowing snare.
