Video: Westend fighter issues apology

Justo explained that he knew the other man involved, and that "he had been giving him problems" for quite some time.

MBOMBELA – One of the two men involved in a fist fight in front of the Westend SUPERSPAR has come forward and issued a public apology for his behaviour.

The fight made headlines after a video of the incident went viral on May 5.

“I am truly sorry for the way I acted in front of the public, and anyone I may have offended. I would like to apologise for my behaviour, it was not right,” Mr Pierre Justo told Lowvelder.

“I came out of the shop and he was outside. He spoke to my girlfriend briefly. Then he challenged me and shoved me. I fought back in self defence and landed around three punches.”

“I lost my footing and fell. That caused the gash on my head. But after that, I got him in a choke hold to subdue him. That is when we were pulled apart.”

Lowvelder reported earlier that no case had been opened with the police since the incident. Justo told the newspaper he opted not to open one against his attacker, but that he went to his home after the incident accompanied by a police officer.

“I do not have time to go to court as I can’t take time off work to go, so I went to his house so we could talk. We agreed that he would replace my cellphone that broke during the fight, or at least have it fixed, and pay for my medical bills as I needed a few stitches and broke my finger.”

The other man involved in the fight did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment before going to press.
