Take your furry friend hiking for a good cause

The funwalk leaves at 10:00 from Lydenrust Guestfarm. Various prizes will aslo be up for grabs which include owner and doggy lookalike, best behaved dog and ugliest dog.

LYDENBURG – This Sunday Lydenrust Guesthouse and Lowveld hikers will be launching the first ever dog friendly hike.

Organisers of the event Ms Alison Botha of Lydenrust Guesthouse and Mr Kevin Ruthven of Lowveld hikers came up with this idea after Botha adopted two dogs from the Home4Paws shelter.

Botha said that she saw the need at the shelter and both she and Ruthven decided to embark on this benefit hike. During the hike there will be boerewors rolls, cool drinks and pony rides for the little ones.

Hikers will also be able to meet the bottle-fed goats and pat Doogle the tame ox. Botha said that even if you can’t afford a donation or food people are welcome to  bring along something old that a puppy may like to chew or play with as well as old towels and blankets.

“Anything will help. Cathy Schutte of the shelter will be selling wors rolls and cool drinks and Lydenburg Kiosk and  The Courier Guy will supply hikers with bottled water. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the day with us.”

The funwalk leaves at 10:00 from Lydenrust Guestfarm. Various prizes will aslo be up for grabs which include owner and doggy lookalike, best behaved dog and ugliest dog.

Entry is only  R50.00 per dog. Human entry fee is a donation at your own discretion.
