MBOMBELA – The EFF is going to win the election on August 3. Mr Collen Sedibe, provincial chairman, said they would be the deciding factor in the first local government election the party is contesting.
“Our main enemy is the ANC. They are the only party who is failing the people, they are the only corrupt party.
“We are going to surprise them. We are going to take those seats by which the ANC is ahead of the opposition parties in all the local municipalities.
“The DA won’t go down – they will maintain their seats or increase them. We will be the deciding factor.”
Provincial organiser Mr Cyrill Chuene said they had no special funding for the election. “We are foot soldiers. We are working 24/7. There is no businessman giving us a lot of money.
“We don’t need it. When people understand the issues they don’t need a truck with big speakers or T-shirts.”
Sedibe added that the political landscape had changed dramatically. “We don’t make promises, we make commitments. We have exposed corruption in Nkandla and we will expose corruption in municipalities. We will stop corruption in awarding tenders, nepotism in appointments and stealing public funds.”
Chuene said, “Any normal and sober person who reads our manifesto can’t walk away from the EFF.”
The party wants councillors who know their constituency. They want nobody to have to travel more than 10 kilometres to get to a clinic, and these must be open 24 hours.
The EFF intends to stop the practice of outsourcing work and instead employ people directly with all the benefits that goes with full-time employment. The party intends to keep the indigent policy whereby the poorest people are afforded free basic services.
“Freedom is a flushing toilet and it is possible for each person to have it. Every year there are so much funds unaccounted for or spent irregularly, but the money to provide services is there.
“We won’t shift grants around. we won’t mismanage funds. We will put in an effective and efficient billing system where everybody pays according to their ability. It will generate more revenue and those who earn more will subsidise those who earn less.”
Businesses and mining companies in particular will be required to pay much more. They claim no mayoral candidates have been elected as yet. “We will cross that bridge. First each candidate must work hard and we will base our decision on their performance,” he said.
Over the next month, they will continue to work towards the aim of winning each municipality. “Even if we don’t win each one, we will be the deciding factor everywhere. That is how we will win,” Sedibe concluded.
