Dog shelter in serious dire straits

If Home 4 Paws does not receive much-needed funding and food from the community, this shelter will have to close its doors indefinitely.

LYDENBURG – If Home 4 Paws does not receive much-needed funding and food from the community, this shelter will have to close its doors indefinitely. It is in desperate need for dog food. The independent shelter is looking after 52 dogs of which 21 are puppies.

According to Ms Cathy Schutte, owner of Home 4 Paws, the shelter is running out of food fast. “We urge the community to please donate any kind of dog food, including puppy food. We are not asking for any luxuries like blankets, towels or toys. We only need dog food.”

The shelter goes through 25kg of dog food every two days. “The shelter is doing its best by asking for donations at Spur to generate funds, but at the moment our urgent need is for any kind of feed. We ask the community to please assist us with supplying our homeless and abused dogs with food,” says Schutte.

Home 4 Paws looks after abandoned, homeless and abused dogs. The dogs are dewormed, receive their full inoculations and are sterilised before being put up for adoption at a mere R600. There has been an increase in strays in town and at the moment the shelter is full to capacity.

Any dog food can be dropped off at the Steelburger/Lydenburg News office or in the Home 4 Paws trolley at Pick n Pay.
