DA posters used for insulation at informal shop

Minnaar said the DA is experiencing serious problems with regard to damages and the illegal removal of posters in the Umjindi area.

A man was apprehended by the Barberton SAPS on Saturday for removing DA political party posters.
The arrest happened after DA activists conducting a door-to-door campaign discovered a large number of DA posters at an informal shop in Emjindini’s Extention 10. The shop owner used these posters as insulation on the inside of this wooden building.

“It is a criminal offence to illegally be in possession of political party posters or material,” said DA Cllr Philip Minnaar. During the arrest the culprit admitted that other people assisted him in removing the posters and also confessed that he nailed them inside his shop.

Minnaar said the DA is experiencing serious problems with regard to damages and the illegal removal of posters in the Umjindi area. “This is the second criminal case opened at the local SAPS. Hopefully the SAPS will also make an arrest with regard to the first case soon.”

He urged the community not to tamper with election posters.

“These actions make provision for strict sentences and the DA does not want people to end up in jail, however, tampering and removal of political party posters should stop now. Let us all work together to ensure a free and fair election.”
