MALALANE – Rabies remains a serious threat to public health and to address this, the provincial Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (Dardlea), has embarked on a free vaccination campaign.

From November 9 the department will visit the Nkomazi Local Municipality, starting in Malalane and ending in Komatipoort.

According to Dardlea South Africa is able to keep the number of human deaths in our country down through vaccinating people as soon as possible after an animal bite or scratch. Nkomazi is the most densely infected region with rabies in the whole of South Africa.

The vaccination programme will take place from 11:00 until 18:00 every day at the following locations:

• November 9 – Malalane Community Library

• November 10 – Malalane Community Library

• November 11 – Komatipoort Veterinary Office

• November 12 – Komatipoort Municipal Offices

• November 13 – Komatipoort Municipal Offices.
