Riverview pupils raise thousands for rhinos

Seeing the passion and dedication of the Riverview children took my breath away

MALALANE – Riverview Prep School has been hard at work in the Save the Rhino campaign.

Last term the grade three class was fortunate enough to go and visit the Care for Wild Rehabilitation Centre, where the children got to feed the baby rhinos and learn all about the

wonderful work this centre does.

“Seeing the passion and dedication of the Riverview children took my breath away,” said

Ms Petronel Nieuwoudt, owner of Care for Wild. The school has been working hard to raise funds and awareness for these endangered animals and the class has raised over R12 000.

At the end of the third term the entire school took part in a march around the school on Save the Rhino Day, carrying black cut-out rhinos, which they later pinned on to a giant rhino-shaped board in the school to highlight just how many of these animals have been poached in 2015 alone.

“All the teachers and myself are so proud of the children for their commitment to raising awareness for this cause,” said

Mr Sean Barry, the school principal.
