Walk for the fight against cancer in Lydenburg

Don't you want to play a part in the fight against cancer?

LYDENBURG – It is just a few weeks before the 2015 CANSA Relay For Life (RFL) event takes place and not more than 10 teams have committed themselves to attend. Don’t you want to play a part in the fight against cancer?

RFL is an event that offers everyone the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. It will be held on October 23 from 18:00 to 06:00 at Laerskool Lydenburg’s sport stadium and field.

The entrance fee is R50 per person, with a minimum of eight per team.

The event represents the hope that all of those who lost the fight against cancer will never be forgotten, that those who are fighting it will be supported and that one day it can be eradicated. Comparing to the past years the number of groups that have registered for 2015 has decreased.

According to chairman of CANSA Lydenburg branch, Isobel Janse van Rensburg, the event lasts 12 hours and has a symbolic meaning. “At 18:00 when the event starts, it resembles the time when the patient is diagnosed.

“Thereafter the treatment starts, be it surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. This takes a couple of months.

“By 02:00 when you are at your lowest peak, it symbolises the patient’s feeling as if he/she can’t carry on.

“By 06:00 the treatment is done, the patient is feeling better and is slowly getting stronger,” she explained.

CANSA Lydenburg is inviting you to make a difference by joining the local RFL. October 14 is the last day to register teams. If you are interested please contact Conrad Langenegger on 071-890-2915 or at info@longtomcs.co.za or visit Longtom Cycle.
