Learners dress to kill for their matric dance

"It's a pity that we will never have the chance to gather like this again as we will be at different tertiary institutions."

BURGERSFORT – It’s that time of the year when grade 12 learners bid farewell to their classmates. With this in mind, Kgahlanong Secondary

School held its matric dance at the magnificent Cappello on August 20.

The debs ball, as it is known, was attended by more than 40 pupils who arrived with their partners. Teachers and SGB members were also present.

Some of them told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they had spent more than R2 000 on their outfits.

The young women were elegantly clad in fancy evening dresses, complemented by their stilettos and their hairstyles were out of this world.

The young gents donned tuxedos and luxurious designer suits.

Although some of them were without partners, they were still thrilled by the occasion. Godfrey Maphanga, one of the pupils, told the newspaper that he would remember the dance for the rest of his life. “I never thought this day would be so special to me, we like the restaurant, the catering and the music as well.

“It’s a pity that we will never have the chance to gather like this again as we will be at different tertiary institutions.”

Principal of the school Ms Johana Ngoetjana said her school’s matric dance was a success.

“The aim is for them to create friendships and to have fun. As a school, we always aim high, we hope to see them excel at their studies as they did today with their outfits,” she quipped. The teachers reminded the learners about the preliminary exams that started on Monday August 24 and they were encouraged to study hard.
