Patient care at Dilokong leaves much to be desired

“She did not have any physical injuries when she was admitted, it was a shock for us to see her in that state,” the family revealed. According to Mkhondo, she asked nurses to help her get out of bed, but they ignored her and continued with their work.

DRIEKOP – A patient at Dilokong Hospital has described the public health care’s condition and treatment as shocking and tragic.

Ms Elsie Mkhondo of Ga Manoke said she was suffering from tuberculosis and was admitted on July 11. According to PastTlaka Lifi, who spoke on behalf of the family, on July 16 when relatives finally got a chance to visit her, they were shocked to see Mkhondo’s lower lip bruised.

“She did not have any physical injuries when she was admitted, it was a shock for us to see her in that state,” the family revealed. According to Mkhondo, she asked nurses to help her get out of bed, but they ignored her and continued with their work.

“I pleaded with them to help me as struggled to walk, but they kept on laughing at me,” she alleged.

The family said Mkhondo ended up falling from the bed and in the process injured herself.

“To our dismay, the department that took care of her (TB ward) passed the blame to the previous ward where she was admitted (medical ward). We then as a family decided to take her home and nurse her here,” Lifi revealed.

“We felt she was safe back home. We are considering taking legal action against the hospital as no one bothered to tell us about the incident and what happened.”

Spokesman for Dilokong Hospital, Mr William Makola said Mkhondo slipped on her way to the bathroom and injured her face.

“We transferred her from the medical ward to the TB ward after seeing her unsatisfactory condition. I encourage her to come back to the hospital to receive proper care because her condition will worsen.” Makola said the hospital always treated their patients with extra care and respect.
