MBOMBELA – This year’s Nelspruit Eisteddfod commenced this week and judges are very impressed with what they’ve seen so far.

Lowvelder was at the civic theatre on Wednesday to see young talent from all over the Lowveld showcase their talents. In the category English Speech and Drama each and every participant was awarded an A+ or A++ symbol.

However, Steve Engelbrecht and Monique Lewis stole the limelight with their performance of a piece from a Shakespeare play. They received the highest score awarded by a judge in this category, this year so far.

Parents and other interested parties can look forward to performances in six more categories, including dance, music, choirs, Afrikaanse voordrag en drama as well as visual arts and photography.

It is the first eisteddfod with Thea Möller as chairman and she added that the standard of entries this year was exceptionally high.

“We are very satisfied with the talent we’ve seen thus far and are receiving overall good feedback from judges,” she said.

She invited everyone to pop in and share in the youth’s exceptional talent.

Eisteddfod will take place daily until August 27.
