Thorburn gives back to the poor

MAANDAGSHOEK- Just as a major cold front hit the Limpopo province, Thorburn security company partnered with the Phokathaba Platinum Mine to keep locals warm – they donated blankets and soup to needy and disadvantaged villagers.

The handover ceremony was organised at Ga-Mamphahlane community hall on Thursday June 11. More than 50 community members’ queued for the blankets.They ululated and cheered as the officials handed them out.

Thorburn donated 100 much-needed blankets and 200 soup sachets and also vowed to provide support with essential food donations in the coming years.

Managing director of Thorburn, Dolf Scheepers told the locals that his company’s aimed to plough back into the surrounding communities where the company conducts business.

“We don’t only wish to improve the lives of our employees, but also the poor and orphans in nearby communities. We have various similar projects all over the country to keep people warm; we call this project Thorburn Icebreaker,” he said.

Caroline Manyaka, a recipient, thanked the company for the blankets, “We will take care of the blankets, it shows that the Thorburn cares about the needy and the poor,” she said.

The donation comes in handy as weather predictions indicate a sharp drop in temperatures in the coming weeks.
