Takkie tax makes a difference

This when communities are asked to buy a Tekkie Tax sticker for R10 or buy a pair of funky shoelaces called “tekkie tags” for R30.

LYDENBURG – It is that time of the year when locals can take off their high heels, school shoes or boots and swap them for a comfy pair of tekkies for a good cause.

This when communities are asked to buy a Tekkie Tax sticker for R10 or buy a pair of funky shoelaces called “tekkie tags” for R30.

Tekkie Tax Day is on Friday, May 29. The money raised goes to the following beneficiaries, CANSA, Endangered Wildlife Trust, HPCA – Hospice Palliative Care SA, Epilepsy SA, Child Welfare SA, SOS Children’s Villages, CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation), Special Olympics SA, Imisebeyelanga Services, Meals on Wheels, ACVV, VVA, Highveld Horse Care Unit, Cheshire Homes SA, NG Welsyn and SAVF.

According to Henriette Sieckers, a community mobiliser from CANSA Lowveld, there are five different stickers, each representing a beneficiary sector, namely: Animals, basic family care, children, disability or education. “You can choose the one you would like to support when buying your sticker,” she added.

“Wear the big sticker on your collar and put the small one on your cellphone and keep it there for the rest of the year, “she said.

The first Tekkie Tax campaign took place in 2013 and R2,4 million was raised. In 2014, R4,8 million was raised. The campaign is endorsed by 16 national NGOs in the country, representing more than 1 500 local organisations.

If you want to make a difference you can get the stickers and “tekkie tags” by calling Sieckers on 013-813-1000 or 082-572-9499 or you can order from the website: www.tekkietax.co.za.
