UMP celebrates Africa Month in unique way

He also reminded people that "what they think, they become" and urged them to generate ideas on how to overcome an intellectual and economic struggle.

MBOMBELA – For the very first time the University of Mpumalanga hosted a public lecture by the well-known Prof. Sipho Seepe, a renowned political analyst.

This took place in celebration of Africa Month, and more specifically Africa Day.

Africa Day is the annual commemoration on May 25 of the founding of the Organisation on African Unity (OAU) in 1963. On this day, leaders of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 1991 the OAU established the African Economic Community and in 2002 it established its own successor – the African Union.

According to Prof. Mayekiso, Vice-Chancellor of the University, this particular celebration is also in line with their Vision 2022: “An African University leading in creating opportunities for sustainable development through innovation”.

Seepe addressed among others the historical trauma as well as the importance of equal opportunities.

He also reminded people that “what they think, they become” and urged them to generate ideas on how to overcome an intellectual and economic struggle.
