Pet sanctuary is dealt a heavy blow after storm

MBOMBELA – Volunteers and donors have extended a helping hand to Pro-Life Pet Rescue after a storm wreaked havoc on Tuesday evening.

A few enclosures which were built with corrugated iron and wood were blown over and destroyed. The office roof lifted up, causing water to gush inside and damage many important documents.

“Three dogs were injured and are now being nursed by our resident veterinarian,” said Pro-Life owner Ms Karin Erasmus. “We are very fortunate that no animals were killed during the storm. We wanted to move a few cats, which were in quarantine, to the kitty kennels earlier that day.

“Luckily we did not because the kennels were almost completely destroyed in the storm and the cats would surely have died.”

After a plea on social media, helpers have been flocking to the sanctuary with supplies and willing hands.

“We received blankets, food, corrugated iron and cement,” read a post on Facebook on Thursday. “Companies and individuals came and helped us work and we restored most of the damage.

“To all the anonymous and nameless sponsors that donated or helped in any way, a very big thanks!”

The sanctuary is still in need of a few basic supplies, like wood and animal food.
