Mystery caller threatens to derail man’s walk in support of farmers

"The man told me he was from intelligence and that I would be in deep trouble if I didn't call off the whole mission. He said he was from the EFF," Nyawo said.

MBOMBELA – “Are you sick that you want to stand for the Boere? If you don’t drop this nonsense, we will take you down.”

A man who claimed to be a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) phoned and threatened

Mr Duncan Nyawo, a teacher from KaBokweni who has vowed to walk from our city to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to stand up against the murders on police officers as well as white farmers.

On his way to buy gear for his journey, Nyawo received this phone call on Friday.

“The man told me he was from intelligence and that I would be in deep trouble if I didn’t call off the whole mission. He said he was from the EFF,” Nyawo said. “I told him he could come for me. There is nothing anyone can do to keep me from completing this task. I’m no chicken.”

He received three threatening messages on Friday. However, all the calls were made from private numbers, making it impossible for police to track.

EFF spokesman Mr Collen Sedibe said he bore no knowledge of the alleged threats.

Despite the intimidating messages, Nyawo has received an abundance of support from locals. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous since she was present when Nyawo received the calls and now feared for her life, bought him running shoes, shorts, socks and airtime. Mr Gavin Cocks, owner of The Farm Stall at Hall’s made a cash donation. “I just think his initiative is superb.”

Nyawo said he would always be grateful for the overwhelming support. However, he was still in need of a few supplies, like water bottles, a backpack, a first-aid kit and energy drinks. “I would also like for someone to make one or two flags saying, ‘Hoot if you are against murders on white farmers or something in that vein.”

Those who would like to bid him farewell can do so on Monday

April 27. His journey will start at 06:00 from The Farm Stall at Hall’s.
