The romantics among us have surprising alternatives to mere chocolate and flowers this year

Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend - it is this coming Saturday - and there is no shortage of fun, special things to do with your significant other or even friends.

Here are a few options that won’t cost more than R500 to enjoy.

Once in a lifetime: The famous primatologist Dr Jane Goodall is in town this weekend to raise funds for her institute. She will be at Chimp Eden from 14:00 to 16:00. Tickets cost R250 per person and includes refreshments and a talk by Goodall. Enquiries: 079-777-1514.

Kick off the celebrations early: Cansa Lowveld will take part in the Daredevil Run this year. It may take place on Valentine’s Day Eve, but women can support their men embarking on a fun run around Emnotweni dressed only in purple Speedo’s while creating awareness for male cancer.
