Today’s front page pic: ‘I won’t back down’

On today’s front page of Lowvelder (Tuesday January 27, 2015): Mr Jan van Wyk was announced December’s winner of the SANParks Public Sightings of the Month competition with this beautiful photo he took of an encounter between a fish eagle and a bush buck at Lake Panic in the Kruger National Park. It was taken on December 7. Van Wyk said he had been observing the young bird for several days. “It decided to cause havoc by chasing flocks of Egyptian geese and thick-knees around. The bush buck had enough of the noise and decided to challenge the bird. They stared at each other for a long time and the buck moved closer. The eagle suddenly opened its wings upon which the buck made the wise decision to rather walk away.”
