High tides in Inhassoro, Mozambique

Residents woke to find an ocean where the beach once was.

MBOMBELA – The few travellers lucky enough to find themselves on a beach in Mozambique would have been surprised to find Inhassoro’s entire beach submerged in the Indian Ocean.

A freak high tide pushed its way to the end of the beach yesterday afternoon. Residents of the area woke to find an ocean where the beach once was. Photos were uploaded to Facebook.

The phenomenon is not a spring tide, which happens around April and September each year, and no weather service predicted the high rise.

So far, no serious damage has been reported.
