Leboeng SAPS host their 16 days of activism

LEBOENG – The local SAPS, the Department of Social Development and Praktiseer’s substance-abuse combating group visited the community of Gankoana Village to launch the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children on November 27.

The event was attended by youth from all across Tubatse and nearby villages. The mass was addressed by various speakers from government departments and local support groups.

The station commander of Leboeng SAPS Capt Solomon Moholane warned community members to refrain from using drugs such as dagga and the home-brewed alcoholic drink called spion. He further warned those distributing the drink to stop as they would face the wrath of the law. He claimed that crime was escalating due to alcohol abuse in the

Leboeng area.

Khomotso Mantsie district coordinator of the Victim Empowerment Programme (Vep) in Sekhukhune advised the youth to stop using drugs and to focus on education. She told them that it was the key to success. Thoriso Choeu, a social worker and substance-abuse coordinator at Dilokong Hospital, told the youth that she was willing to help those who were addicted to drugs and alcohol.

“It’s your choice, come to our offices and we will help you quit drugs and booze,” she said. Also on the list of motivators was Miss Teen Limpopo Millicent Mashele and Mokoena Njaga of Gamahlokoane, an ex-offender in domestic violence. He warned men to stop abusing women and children.
