Mbombela’s High Court construction raises questions

Lowvelder is investigating alleged conflict among key players.

MBOMBELA – Construction of the High Court building may be influenced negatively by the termination of the lead architect’s contract.

After reports surfaced in the media last week, it was confirmed that the head architect in the project’s contract has been terminated.  Advocate Mthunzi Mhlanga, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, confirmed this.

Breach of contract by the former lead architects was indicated to be the reason for the termination of their contract.  “Orbic Architects has been temporarily assigned the role of the lead architect until the process of appointing the new lead architect has  been finalized,” Mhlanga confirmed.

He added that this should not cause a delay, as Orbic has been involved during every step of the construction process.

The resignation of Mr Cobus Laüsberg, contracts manager of Group Five construction, was also confirmed yesterday.
