Mandela devoted his life to fighting for social justice so everyone could have a better life.

On Mandela Day, Barberton Mines and its stakeholders, together with Friends of the Barberton Daisy and members of the community, started a major clean-up at eMjindini High School. Assisted by the schools governing body, they decided to use their 67 minutes, plus a few more hours more, to revamp the school which was in a poor state.

Being one of the schools adopted by Barberton mines, it was decided to reach out and help where they could. From early on Friday morning, people could be seen washing, cleaning and painting. By early afternoon, 16 new classroom doors had been installed, classes had been scrubbed and painted and Friends of the Barberton Daisy had also cleaned the area around the school.

The school’s governing body chairman, Ms S Mabuza, thanked the 48 individuals who carried out good deeds to improve the condition of the school.

Mandela day has certainly created positive change at the school and principal Mr A Mathebula, thanked Barberton Mines for its spirit of selflessness, volunteerism and the dedication showed by the mine staff and the entire team.

“It was a great success and its heartwarming to know that Barberton Mines cares so much for our community,” said Andrea Botha of Friends of the Barberton Daisy.
