Padel for CANSA raises healthy lifestyles and funds in Mbombela

The CANSA padel tournament was played in a festive spirit and catered to all ages and fitness levels.

A spirited Padel for CANSA tournament was held at Play 360 on Saturday, September 7, and 75 players took one another on in an Americano format to see who was the best of the best.

The most important mission of the day, though, was not to decide the top players, but to raise funds for CANSA to help the organisation finance its mission of providing support and education and investing in cancer research. Kurt Darren even popped by to wish the players good luck.

“The Padel tournament idea stemmed from the fact that CANSA not only invests in research and provides support services, it also promotes healthy lifestyles,” said Riaan Loubser of the organising committee.

Entries were open to all ages, genders and fitness levels in order to bring a community together to get active. “We are extremely happy to see that people from all walks of life and ages participated. It shows that cancer does not discriminate and affects all communities. Coming together as one unites every person who has or may have to deal with cancer. The kind venue sponsorship from Play 360 allowed us access to the club for an entire Saturday. The volunteer committee is extremely grateful that when the call went out looking for entries, the community did not hesitate to sign up.”

Matches were played from 08:00 until early evening.
