Hop on into CANSA Mpumalanga’s car … for 24 hours

CANSA Mpumalanga will have eight daring Lowvelders tackling a very unique kind of challenge between August 30 and September 1, as they will need to sit in a car for 24 hours in two groups of four.

CANSA Mpumalanga is hosting a marathon challenge for a select few locals as they tackle the task of sitting in a car for 24 hours in the name of fundraising for the organisation.

Fundraising is a key part of the Cancer Association of South Africa’s (CANSA) ability to carry out the work it does, playing a pivotal role in the fight against cancer in South Africa. The mission of CANSA is to enable research, educate the public and advocate for and support all people affected by cancer.

As a non-profit organisation, this is only possible due to the various fundraising campaigns and events that the branches host throughout the year. One of these events held by CANSA Mpumalanga will take place between August 30 and September 1 in the form of the CANSA Car Sit-in.

The sit-in will include two separate groups of four locals who will occupy a car for 24 hours at a time. Taking place at i’langa Mall, the first group hops into the car on Friday at 14:00 and will embark on their stint until 14:00 the next day. Then, at 14:00 on Saturday, the second group will have their turn and remain in the car until 14:00 on Sunday.

While the idea is to occupy the car for a full 24 hours, the occupants will be allowed to leave the car to take bathroom breaks and to eat meals. There will also be the chance for other individuals to hop into the boot of the vehicle for an hour at a time, but if someone donates R1 000 to CANSA, the person can be ‘bailed’ out of the boot.

Patrons at the mall will be able to make donations to CANSA as they wander about and pass the car sit-in, either by cash or card. If you would like to get involved, contact Rinella Janse van Vuuren on 082 041 2124.
