Malalane attorney’s Skeletons Unearthed podcast raises questions and eyebrows

Delving into her legal battles and details of cases dealt with, Zietta Janse van Rensburg's podcasts are surely drawing attention.

The podcast series titled Skeletons Unearthed, which is written and presented by Zietta Janse van Rensburg, delves into her legal battle, divulges details of cases dealt with in a Legal Practice Council (LPC) application against her, and divulges intimate details of her personal life.

“If you cannot respect my boundaries, you will have to fear it.”

This is how Janse van Rensburg reacted to questions raised about the series. She explained the origin of the project: “I was approached to write a book on my life as an attorney in a small town, focusing so far on three events. When an article was published selective with the truth, I wanted to do a press release. The publishing team advised on a podcast, where we create a platform to deal with claim after claim and legal matters in general. I would not want to wash people’s dirty laundry in public, but I have not received the same courtesy. My friends and family are affected, it is no longer about me.”

The suspended lawyer transgresses attorney/client privilege and states her reasons for this: “As you would have noted in the affidavit [sent to the LPC and Lowvelder on August 12], I swayed in giving my full version in my answering affidavit as I respected the client’s privacy and the court refused to entertain the reasons in the appeals. They have foregone that right when the media war pursued, and therein I reserve my rights. The peanut gallery has also started quieting down, most likely fearing that I will expose them. This is not vindictive, but me speaking out.”

In her first episode, titled ‘Can you tame the elephant in the courtroom?’, Judge Brian Mashile is in the firing line. In the podcast, Janse van Rensburg poses the question ‘In what universe’ would it be fair that the same judge could preside over three matters which involved her?

Janse van Rensburg claims that while the media reported that Mashile recused himself from the contempt of court matter against her because it suited their narrative, it was devoid of any truth. She professes that his recusal followed after she brought an urgent application against the judge to recuse himself.

“I stormed him, and he backed down,” she professes, and further accuses Mashile of showing a lack of fairness. She says she will be placing every case the judge has presided over, in which she was involved during the past two years, under review.

In the second podcast, titled ‘Silent crimes from the grave’, Janse van Rensburg addresses one of the complaints registered at the LPC that relates to an estate dispute.

Janse van Rensburg describes in detail a double murder and then a murder-suicide that shocked the community.

She describes how, at the last-mentioned crime scene, she removed a cellphone covered in blood, brain and remains from a body and witnessed weapons being removed from the property.

Janse van Rensburg says the murdered party had long before requested that should anything happen to her (the victim), she must remove all her electronics.
