Veld fires wreak havoc in Mashishing and surrounds
The veld fires in the Mashishing area are currently spreading rapidly, despite the efforts of all the role players to combat them.
Since Sunday night, July 7, a series of veld fires have wreaked havoc along the R37 to Dullstroom, the R36/Bambi road and the Mosterthoek area, posing a significant challenge to containment efforts despite the tireless work of emergency services and volunteers.
The fires, believed to have started due to dry conditions exacerbated by the dry winter conditions, have rapidly spread across vast stretches of grassland and bush, fuelled by gusty winds.
Efforts to bring them under control have been hampered by the difficult terrain and the sheer scale of the affected area.

Volunteers and farmers along these roads have been engaged in a continuous battle to prevent the fires from spreading further towards nearby communities and other areas.
The fires are unpredictable due to the wind patterns, and the dry conditions are making it difficult to contain them.
The residents in the vicinity have been advised to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders promptly if issued.
